Brienz Rothorn Railway
Several Swiss mountains are called Rothorn, but there is only one near Brienz, on the beautiful lake Brienz, in the Bernese Oberland.
And only here, 15 km from the world-famous
resort of Interlaken, is its ascent as romantic and
impressive – thanks to the Brienz Rothorn Railway,
Switzerland’s oldest steam cog railway. It has climbed
Rothorn Kulm hissing, huffing and puffing since 1892. You
try conquering 1'678 metres of altitude differential without
getting short of breath! Your reward for riding with us is a
spectacular mountain panorama, the hospitality of the
Rothorn Kulm Hotel and a wide selection of incomparable
hikes. Getting back down on the Brienz Rothorn Railway is
as safe and reliable as getting to the top. No wonder we’re the favourite of families, groups, and school
classes of any age.
